Linda Kiernan

Dr.Linda Kiernan Knowles

Dr Kiernan is originally from Harmony Heights, Drogheda and attended Greenhills. She has lectured at Trinity College Dublin since 2004, having previously held positions in University College Dublin and St Patrick's College Drumcondra. Her research focuses on the roles of women in early modern Europe, and her doctorate was on the royal mistresses of Louis XIV.

Her work has featured in History Ireland, the Irish Independent, and she has previously worked on documentaries for TG4, Channel 4 and the History Channel. Linda teaches courses including; The Making of Modernity, 1750-1820, Romance before Romanticism: Life, Love and Death in Ancien Régime and Revolutionary France,Gender and Sexuality in Early Modern Europe and also - From Reformation To Revolution. Currently she is committed primarily to encouraging public engagement in history. To this end she regularly contributes to popular publications, tv and radio shows, and public events. Most recently she appeared on BBC Two’s Inside Versailles, BBC Radio 4’s When Greeks Flew Kites, and RTE’s Audience Council event on Fake News. She was an invited speaker at the 2017 Dublin Festival of History and TCD’s Probe EU Researchers event. Her public engagement pieces have appeared in The Conversation, culturised.co.uk, The Wire (India), The Local.fr, The Independent (London), RTÉ Brainstorm and The Washington Post.
